Craven Early College

New Bern, NC  28562

July 9, 2008

Greetings Early College Families,

As mentioned in an earlier newsletter by Dr. Annette Brown, I, Daniel Colvin will be assuming the position of Dean at Craven Early College.  I am certainly no stranger to CEC and I am most proud and honored to have been one of the members on the grant writing team to bring CEC to Craven County Schools and Craven Community College.  CEC is an outstanding school with great students, faculty, staff, and parents, and I am most grateful to have the opportunity to join such a wonderful team.

The vision of Craven Early College is to be the highest performing early college in the state of North Carolina, and its mission is to be personal, but focused on optimum achievement driven by rigor, relevance, and relationships.  CEC is meeting and exceeding the expectations of both its vision and mission statements as demonstrated by the growth of our students and their outstanding performances on the EOCs.  The students, faculty, staff, and parents will continue to work hard and remain committed to continuous improvement.

Every year since its inception, CEC has expanded and undergone changes.  This upcoming year will not be any different as we add five new faculty members, and our junior class students become more and more involved in the college atmosphere with college classes and club organizations.  It is also anticipated that students will be participating in more new and exciting educational field trips.  Parents as always, you will be asked to meet with cabinet representatives for feedback on any new or existing processes.  Benjamin Franklin stated, “When you’re finished changing, you’re finished.”  Well, CEC is far from being finished; therefore, we will continue to explore innovative ideas and practice to keep us moving forward and on the cutting edge. Everyone around here is excited, and I am too.

Student orientation for freshmen is Tuesday, July 29 at 6:30 and sophomores and juniors will meet Thursday, July 31 at 6:30.  Those sessions will start in Orringer Auditorium and proceed to the areas of instruction.

The first day of school August 5, 2008 is just around the corner.  I hope the remainder of your summer is an awesome one, and we will see you soon.

Respectfully,

Daniel Colvin
